We’ve loved living in the Reading Room as a family. Right at the heart of the village, the children have been able to walk to school and enjoy everything Puddletown has to offer. As a home, the Reading Room has been an incredible space to entertain and enjoy. Cosy winters with the log burner on in the snug and warm summer evenings in natural light filled rooms and our private, walled garden. The best thing about our home has been the large rooms, the natural light everywhere and all the quirky original features, which have always made great talking point with guests and visitors.

Directions

From Dorchester Top 'O Town roundabout proceed Easterly to the A35 and head towards Poole and Bournemouth. Approximately three miles later, take the left turn and follow the signs to Puddletown. Proceed along the High Street and past the shop and bus stop and our property is on the Junction ahead on the left hand side.

Environment

Nestling in the Piddle Valley, surrounded by rolling hills and woodland lies Puddletown (formerly Piddletown), one of Dorset’s most attractive villages and which features heavily in Hardy’s novels, most notably Far from the Madding Crowd. Filled with small thatched and colour washed cottages, Puddletown was home to Hardys grandfather and great grandfather and also the powerful Martin family who had two manorial houses close by - at Athelhampton and Waterston. Puddletown boasts good bus links, shops and a very highly recommended middle school as well as a pub and thriving community.
